Description

Flurazole is a drug that belongs to the class of benzothiazoles and inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase. Flurazole was developed as an anti-viral agent, but has been found to be effective against HIV. Flurazole suppresses viral life by inhibiting the transcription of genes that are essential for viral replication. It also inhibits cellular transformation in human cells and blocks protein synthesis in both bacterial cells and mammalian cells. Flurazole has been shown to have a potent effect on solid phase microextraction from malonic acid, which may be due to its ability to bind with basic proteins or fatty acids present in the sample.
