Description

N-[2-(6-Fluoro-1H-indol-3-yl)ethyl]-3-(2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropoxy)benzenesulfonamide (6FIAU) is a long-acting drug that has been shown to improve memory in patients with Alzheimer's disease. 6FIAU has also been shown to be effective against symptoms of depression. This drug binds reversibly to the 5HT6 receptor and inhibits the activity of this receptor by competitive inhibition. The preparation process includes crystallization from an organic solvent such as ethyl acetate or ethanol. Crystals can be grown from a solution by seeding with a small amount of material containing crystals.
