Flufenacet is a herbicide that belongs to the group of carbonyl compounds. It inhibits the synthesis of fatty acids by inhibiting acyl-coenzyme A (acyl-CoA) carboxylase. Flufenacet has been shown to inhibit the growth of plants in laboratory experiments, but has not been tested for chronic exposure or toxicity studies on mammals. The effective dosage for herbicidal activity is unknown and more research is needed to determine its toxicity. The most common use for flufenacet is as an additive in herbicides with other active ingredients such as trifluoroacetic acid (TFA). This synergistic effect increases the effectiveness of these herbicides against weeds.
