4-Fluoro-13-methyl-6,7,8,9,11,12,14,15,16,17-decahydrocyclopenta[a]phenanthrene-2,3,17-triol is a carcinogenic metabolite of catechol. It is postulated to be an important carcinogen in hamsters and humans. 4-Fluoro-13-methyl-6,7,8,9,11,12,14,15 16 17 decahydrocyclopenta[a]phenanthrene (4FMPD) is capable of binding to the estrogen receptor and can be used to study the effects of estrogens on cancer. 4FMPD has been shown to be carcinogenic in hamsters when injected into their kidney at high doses.
