The substance has also been found to be effective against S. marcescens and other bacteria that produce 5-methylindole in their extracellular environment. 5-Fluoro-2-methyl-1H-indole is used in assays to measure the potentials of substances that are active against S. marcescens and other bacteria that produce 5-methylindole in their extracellular environment.
