• Description: 3-Fluoro-2-methylbenzoic acid (3FMBA) is an organic compound that can be used to generate 3-iodo-4-methylbenzoic acid (3IMBA). This derivatization procedure can be used for the determination of 3FMBA in a variety of samples. 3FMBA can be detected by capillary gas chromatography with mass spectrometry detection. It has a high nucleophilicity, which allows it to react with the electron rich iodide ion, forming an electrophilic intermediate. The hydrotalcite ion exchanger is a dispersive solid phase extraction matrix that is commonly used in the analysis of organic compounds. Hydrotalcite is also able to extract methyl esters from water and other polar solvents. Dispersive solid phase extraction is often used when there are interfering substances in the sample matrix, such as proteins and polysaccharides.
