9H-Fluoren-9-amine hydrochloride is a protonated and fluorinated derivative of 9H-fluoren. It is an amide with a quaternary ammonium salt group. 9H-Fluoren-9-amine hydrochloride is used as a fluorescence probe for oligosaccharides and inorganic compounds, such as metal ions and transition metals.
The fluorescence properties of this compound are related to the bond cleavage of the imine function. The nitrogen atom undergoes protonation and forms the corresponding ammonium salt under acidic conditions. The resulting amine can then be quantified using spectrometric methods or by mass spectrometry.
