3-(2-Furyl)-2-phenylacrylic acid is a cinchonidine derivative that was first synthesized in the 1960s. It is selective for propenoic acid and adsorbed to propionic acid. This compound has been shown to be an additive in the hydrogenation of heteroaromatic compounds with enantioselective hydrogenation. 3-(2-Furyl)-2-phenylacrylic acid has also been shown to be an inhibitor of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4,5-T) in plants.
