Fluphenazine N4'-oxide is a peroxide derivative of the phenothiazine antipsychotic drug, fluphenazine. It has been shown to have potent anti-inflammatory properties and is used as an oxidant for the synthesis of 3-chloroperoxybenzoic acid. Fluphenazine N4'-oxide is also a precursor of butyrophenones, which are antipsychotic drugs that are used to treat psychosis. Fluphenazine N4'-oxide has been shown to be more effective than other antipsychotics at reducing psychotic symptoms in patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
