Felbamate is a drug that is used as an anticonvulsant, anxiolytic, and anti-convulsant. It is also used to treat chronic pain and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Felbamate has minimal toxicity in humans and animals. In experimental studies, felbamate was shown to be a potent inducer of locomotor activity in rats. The drug also showed significant cytotoxicity against cultured cells with little or no toxicity against whole organisms. Felbamate may be effective for pharmacological treatment of bowel disease, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and ulcerative colitis (UC).
