- N-[(9H-fluoren-9-ylmethoxy)carbonyl]-D-isoleucine
- (2S,3S)-2-{[(9H-fluoren-9-ylmethoxy)carbonyl]amino}-3-methylpentanoate
Fmoc-D-isoleucine is a cyclic peptide that inhibits the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV). It has been shown to have a cytotoxic effect on tumor cells. Fmoc-D-isoleucine binds to DPP-IV in a competitive manner and prevents the enzyme from breaking down the amino acid sequence of proinsulin, which is necessary for normal cell growth. The effective dose of Fmoc-D-isoleucine is between 5 and 10 micromolar, with an IC50 of approximately 4 micromolar. This peptide also binds to sodium ions and hydroxyl groups, and forms disulfide bonds with silver ions, which can be used for further structural analysis. Fmoc-D-isoleucine has been shown to inhibit neurodegeneration in animal models by binding to iron and preventing its oxidation.
