Description

3-Furanmethanol is a reactive molecule that has a hydroxyl group and is the product of furfuryl acetate. It can also be made by a solid-phase synthesis method involving chloride and an organic compound containing a hydroxyl group. 3-Furanmethanol reacts with proteins and other biomolecules, which can be used as an efficient method for toxicity studies. The conformational properties of this molecule are studied using NMR spectra, while its hydrogen bonding interactions are determined by infrared spectroscopy. 3-Furanmethanol can also act as a substrate in fatty acid synthase, which is an enzyme involved in lipid metabolism.
