Description

1-(2-Furyl)propan-2-one is an organic compound that belongs to the class of fatty acids. It is a ligand in coordination chemistry and has been used as a reagent in organic synthesis. The compound is found naturally in small quantities, but can also be synthesized from other compounds. It is often used as a precursor for other chemicals, such as phenylacetic acid, and reacts with strong bases to form its salts. 1-(2-Furyl)propan-2-one has been shown to react with catalytic reduction or hydroxyl group activation to produce volatile compounds such as benzene, acetaldehyde, and hydrogen gas. This reaction can be induced by zinc powder or by exposure to the headspace of certain c-h bonds in primary amines or triflates.
