2-Fluoro-4-nitrotoluene is a thioacetamide derivative that has been shown to be an antibacterial. This compound inhibits bacterial growth by reacting with amines, thereby preventing the synthesis of proteins that are necessary for cell division. The drug also has anti-cancer effects, which may be due to its ability to inhibit formyl and nucleophilic reactions in cancer cells. 2-Fluoro-4-nitrotoluene is not soluble in water and is only available as a solid. It can be found in recycled solvents such as organic solvents, which may cause environmental pollution if disposed of improperly.
2-Fluoro-4-nitrotoluene is stable at room temperature but will react with propionate to produce 2 fluorinated propionates. The reaction yield for this reaction is not 100%.
