Description

Fmoc-Arg(Pbf)-OPfp is a distal sulfate pentafluorophenyl diastereomer that can be used for the synthesis of peptides. The interaction of Fmoc-Arg(Pbf)-OPfp with lipase has been studied using heparin as a substrate and it was found that the enzyme hydrolyzed the ester bond, releasing an acid and an alcohol. This reaction was shown to be ionic, which means that the hydrolysis is caused by a change in pH or charge at the interface between Fmoc-Arg(Pbf)-OPfp and lipase. Hepatic lipase, a protein present in human liver cells, has been shown to cleave the peptide bond on the n-terminal end of this molecule.
