Fmoc-p-trifluoromethyl-L-phenylalanine is a protein that is encoded by the HIV-1 protease gene. It is an inhibitor of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) protease and has inhibitory activity against other aspartic proteases. Fmoc-p-trifluoromethyl-L-phenylalanine inhibits the maturation of the HIV virion, which prevents it from infecting cells. It also has antiviral activity in human cells, inhibiting the replication of other viruses such as influenza A and herpes simplex virus type 2.
