- For-L-Nle-OHFormyl-L-2-aminohexanoic acid
For-L-norleucine is a synthetic amino acid that has been shown to have potential for the prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. For-L-norleucine inhibits the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by redox cycling, which is a process in which an electron is transferred between two molecules, thereby generating ROS. For-L-norleucine also inhibits the complementarity pathway by binding to C1q, preventing activation of the complement system. This prevents the release of inflammatory mediators and the activation of neutrophils and apoptosis. For-L-norleucine has also been shown to inhibit protein synthesis in cells, which may be due to its ability to bind to pyridoxal phosphate, an enzyme cofactor required for protein synthesis.
