6-Fluoro-4-hydroxy-2-methylquinoline is a diazoxide derivative that has vasorelaxant properties. It increases the cytosolic concentration of calcium ions and inhibits ATP-sensitive K+ channels, which results in relaxation of smooth muscle cells. 6-Fluoro-4-hydroxy-2-methylquinoline was shown to be effective in blocking the hyperglycemic response in pancreatic tissues by inhibiting glucose uptake. This drug also has been shown to have a significant effect on extracellular calcium ion concentrations. 6-Fluoro 4 hydroxy 2 methylquinoline is used as an experimental tool for studying the function of atp sensitive K+ channels in muscles and other tissues.
