4-Fluoropyridine is a pyridine derivative that is synthesized by the reaction of hydrogen fluoride with 4-methylpyridine. It has been shown to have optical properties, with an absorption maximum of 565 nm and emission maximum at 637 nm. It also has a variety of methods for synthesis, including fluorination, chlorination, sulfoxidation, or acylation. 4-Fluoropyridine can be stabilized as an n-oxide in the presence of oxygen gas and isomers are possible. This compound has been shown to be activated by heat and then react with a sulfoxide to form a new heterostructure. The mechanism of death in this compound involves the formation of reactive oxygen species that cause DNA damage which leads to apoptosis.
