• Description: 6-Fluorotryptophan (6FT) is an analog of the amino acid tryptophan that has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis. 6FT binds to the synthetase, which prevents it from catalyzing the conversion of chorismate into tryptophan. This inhibition leads to a decrease in the production of proteins, which can be seen in wild-type strains and human serum. 6FT also has fluorescence properties, which have been shown to be useful for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and monoclonal antibody detection. The type strain for this compound is corynebacterium glutamicum, with a polypeptide length of 576 amino acids.
