Description

16-Fluorohexadecanoic acid is a fatty acid that has the molecular formula CHFO. It is a colorless, oily liquid with a boiling point of -15.4°C. 16-Fluorohexadecanoic acid can be synthesized from tetraethylammonium and fluoroacetic acid in the presence of an antimicrobial peptide. The reaction rate is slow and takes place at the pretransition temperature. Gel permeation chromatography has been used to separate this compound into its component parts, which are fluorine and fatty acids. 16-Fluorohexadecanoic acid has been shown to have antibacterial properties that are due to its ability to inhibit the formation of bilayers in anhydrous acetonitrile.
