2-Fluoro-1,4-benzenedicarbonitrile (2FBDC) is a reagent that is used to synthesize 4-chlorobenzonitrile. It has been shown to be an antiinflammatory agent in rats and mice with induced inflammation. 2FBDC inhibits the production of prostaglandins by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase. This inhibition leads to a decrease in the synthesis of proinflammatory eicosanoids, such as thromboxanes and leukotrienes. 2FBDC has also been shown to be a nonsteroidal condition drug that can be used for gastrointestinal disorders and inflammation. The LD50 values for 2FBDC are not known, but it is less toxic than phenylbutazone (LD50=5g/kg).
