2-Fluoro-3-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzaldehyde is a synthetic compound that has been used as a lead structure for the synthesis of galanthamine analogues. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the biosynthesis of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide and may be a potential therapeutic target for diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and diabetes mellitus type II. 2-Fluoro-3-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzaldehyde can be found in daffodils. The natural product berberine, which is derived from plants of the Berberidaceae family, also contains this compound and has been shown to have antimicrobial properties.
