Description

2-(Fluoromethyl)Dehydroornithine Ethyl Ester is a drug that prevents polyamine oxidase and protein synthesis, which are enzymes involved in the production of new cells. This drug has been shown to be effective against hepatoma, or cancerous liver cells, in tissue culture. The mechanism of action for 2-(Fluoromethyl)Dehydroornithine Ethyl Ester is not well understood, but it may inhibit cell growth by blocking the synthesis of certain proteins, such as ornithine and methionine. This drug also inhibits the production of endogenous polyamines such as spermidine and putrescine from arginine by inhibiting the enzyme polyamine oxidase.
2-(Fluoromethyl)Dehydroornithine Ethyl Ester has also been shown to be effective against ventral prostate cancer in animal studies.
