Description :
3-Fluoro-3-(hydroxymethyl)oxetane is a cyclic ether that is formed by the cyclization of methylsulfonyl chloride and magnesium. It is produced in large quantities due to its use as an organic solvent, with trifluoromethylsulfonyl chloride being the main industrial source. 3-Fluoro-3-(hydroxymethyl)oxetane has been used to synthesize other related compounds. The reaction yields ethanesulfonic acid and hydrogen fluoride as byproducts. 3-Fluoro-3-(hydroxymethyl)oxetane is soluble in organic solvents such as dichloromethane, chloroform, or acetone.
