4-[1-(3-Fluoro-4-Phenylphenyl)Ethyl]-N-Methyl-1,3-Thiazol-2-Amine (MTX) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that inhibits adhesion formation in cells. It has been shown to be effective against inflammatory diseases such as arthritis and Crohn's disease. MTX is an inhibitor of the enzyme cyclooxygenase, which produces prostaglandins and thromboxanes from arachidonic acid. MTX is metabolized by conjugation with glucuronic acid, sulfate, or methyl groups. The metabolites are excreted in the urine and bile. MTX also inhibits collagen synthesis and monoclonal antibodies directed against collagen have been used to study its effects on the inhibition of adhesion molecule expression in inflammatory cells.
