Gibberellin is a natural chemical substance that belongs to the group of plant hormones. It is a mixture of two gibberellins, A4 and A7. Gibberellin has been shown to have physiological effects on plants. This hormone plays an important role in the regulation of growth and development. Gibberellin is also known to act as an antioxidant, preventing reactive oxygen species from causing cell damage by reacting with them and converting them into less reactive molecules. Gibberellin has been shown to inhibit the enzyme fatty acid synthase (FAS) in mice, which converts fatty acids into polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). However, it does not inhibit FAS activity in red blood cells, suggesting that gibberellin may selectively target tissues rather than cells.
