Description

Germanium telluride is a semiconductor material that is used in electronic devices. Germanium telluride has a cubic crystalline structure and can be synthesized by the reaction of germanium and tellurium. It has a high resistance to corrosion and does not corrode in air or water. Germanium telluride also has ferroelectric properties, which means it changes its polarization when an electric field is applied to it. This property makes it useful for data storage in computer memories and other types of electrical circuits. In addition, this material can be used as an x-ray absorber and as a detector of infrared radiation. Germanium telluride is also being studied as a possible treatment for the pandemic covid-19 virus, which causes respiratory infections in pigs.
