Description :
Guanidinopentanoic acid is a β-amino acid that is present in the distal tubule of the kidney. It can be detected with monoclonal antibodies and has been shown to be implicated in the pathogenesis of chronic kidney disease. The molecule is highly water-soluble and found in high concentrations within the glomerular filtrate, suggesting it may play an important role in renal function. It has also been shown to inhibit neurotransmission through its action on the serotonergic system.
