- L-α-Glutamyl-L-aspartic acid
Glu-Asp-OH is a dipeptide that is found in the blood of patients with Gaucher's disease. The blood plasma levels of this compound are elevated in patients with Gaucher's disease and can be used as a diagnostic marker for this condition. Glu-Asp-OH is also an intermediate in the synthesis of glycoproteins and proteoglycans, which are important components of connective tissue. It has been found to be hydrophobic and acidic, which makes it useful for reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) analysis. Glu-Asp-OH is synthesized from two amino acids: glutamic acid and aspartic acid. It is also important for the production of interleukin, which may play a role in Gaucher's disease.
