Amidinothiourea is a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound that has been used in the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome, autoimmune diseases, and metabolic disorders. It has been shown to be effective as an anti-inflammatory agent and to improve cognitive function. Amidinothiourea also exhibits locomotor activity and diphenolase activity. In addition to its antioxidant properties, amidinothiourea is metabolized by various enzymes and binds strongly to water molecules. The reaction mechanism of amidinothiourea is not well understood, but it appears that hydroxyl groups are involved in hydrogen bonding interactions with other functional groups on the molecule. Docking experiments have revealed a binding site for amidinothiourea in the ATP synthase protein complex, which may explain its pharmacokinetic properties.
