• Description: Galaxolide is a synthetic fragrance ingredient. It is a mixture of two isomers, alpha- and beta-galaxolide. Galaxolide has been shown to have antimicrobial properties and can be used in the treatment of wastewater. The analytical method for galaxolide includes dispersive solid phase extraction with benzalkonium chloride (BAC). The BAC forms an ionic complex with galaxolide that can then be extracted into organic solvent. Galaxolide also has high resistance to microbial degradation and can be used as an antimicrobial agent in cosmetics.
