Description

Glycine is an amino acid that is necessary for the synthesis of proteins and other compounds in the body. It is also a precursor to the neurotransmitter, γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Glycine has been shown to be involved in a number of metabolic disorders with high frequency in humans, such as infectious diseases, diabetes mellitus, and hypertension. Glycine has been shown to be an antimicrobial agent against bacteria and fungi. Glycine has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. It can inhibit the production of prostaglandins by inhibiting cyclooxygenase activity. Glycine may also have immunosuppressive effects by inhibiting T-cell proliferation and cytokine production.
