Gymnemagenin is an antidiabetic agent that is used for the treatment of metabolic disorders and obesity. It has been shown to be a potent enhancer of glucose uptake in cultured muscle cells, and its effects are similar to those of tiglic acid. Gymnemagenin has been shown to inhibit the activity of glutamate pyruvate transaminase, which is an enzyme involved in the metabolism of amino acids. This drug also enhances the concentration-time curve for glucose in mice by a polymerase chain reaction technique. It also has a number of biological properties such as anti-inflammatory, anti-tumour, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory activities.
