2-Hydroxymethylbenzofuran is a synthetic compound that has been shown to be an analogue of cisplatin, with the addition of a carbamate group. It was synthesized by modifying the structure of cisplatin and adding a triazole group. 2-Hydroxymethylbenzofuran has been shown to inhibit the growth of cells in culture through steric interactions, which lead to functional groups in the nucleophilic region. It is also chiral, meaning it can exist as two different compounds with different properties. This compound has been shown to modulate cell signaling pathways and promote cancer cell death by inhibiting protein synthesis at the ribosome level.
