Description

2-Hydroxy-2-(trifluoromethyl)propanoic acid is an agrochemical that is used to control fungi in plants. It inhibits the growth of fungi by causing a change in the cell membrane and inhibiting protein synthesis. 2-Hydroxy-2-(trifluoromethyl)propanoic acid is used as a fungicide and is effective against Trichoderma, Rhizoctonia, and Fusarium species. The compound has been shown to be stereoselective with respect to the -OH group at C2, resulting in two enantiomers: L-2-hydroxy-2-(trifluoromethyl)propanoic acid and D-2-hydroxy-2-(trifluoromethyl)propanoic acid.
