Description

1-Hexylpyridinium hexafluorophosphate (1-HPFP) is a pharmaceutical dosage that belongs to the group of pyridinium salts. It can be used in the treatment of urinary tract infections and has been shown to be effective against bacteria, such as Proteus mirabilis and Enterobacter cloacae. 1-HPFP is an irreversible inhibitor of bacterial enzymes, such as hydrogenase, that are involved in the oxidation of organic substances such as urea or creatinine. This inhibition reduces the production of nitrous oxide and prevents the formation of toxic compounds that may damage cells. 1-HPFP also reversibly inhibits reversible reactions by adsorption on multi-walled carbon nanotubes. 1-HPFP has been shown to be an effective antimicrobial agent for urine samples with pH values between 3.5 and 7.5, with optimum concentration at 7%.
