2-Hydrazino-4,6-dimethylpyrimidine (HDP) is an anti-tuberculosis drug that has been shown to be effective in animals and humans. HDP binds to the bacterial enzyme adenylyltransferase and blocks the formation of ATP, which is required for cell growth. HDP also inhibits fatty acid biosynthesis by blocking the conversion of acetyl coenzyme A into malonyl coenzyme A. The molecular modeling study suggests that HDP competes with the substrate for binding to adenylyltransferase. The reaction products are tautomers that can be converted into each other through hydrogen bonding.
