6-Hydroxy-4-pyrimidinecarboxylic acid is a physiochemical that has been found to have a variety of therapeutic effects. It is synthesized by dihydroxylation of 4-pyrimidinecarboxylic acid, and can be oxidized to form 6-hydroxy-4-(1H)-pyrimidinone carboxylic acid. It is also known as DHPPA. This drug has been used in the treatment of HIV infection, but its use for this purpose has been discontinued because it was found to be toxic to cells. 6-Hydroxypyrimidinecarboxylic acid is metabolized by cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes and hydroxylated by CYP2E1, CYP2B6, and CYP3A4. The pharmacokinetic properties of this drug are influenced by the metabolic enzyme profile and the excretion rate of each individual. Nitrous oxide may
