• Description: 5-Hydrazino-1H-tetrazole hydrochloride is a crystalline, water-soluble compound. It has the molecular formula NHNHC(NH2)NH2 and a molecular weight of 176.5 g/mol. This substance crystallizes in the orthorhombic system with cell dimensions a = 6.59 Å, b = 11.74 Å, c = 10.81 Å and β= 120°. The crystal structure consists of an equatorially planar phenyl ring with two phenyl rings at the equator that are connected through hydrogen bonds to form a pyrazole ring. There are four hydrogens in this molecule, three from the phenyl groups and one from the nitrogen atom on the tetrazole ring, which is stabilized by two oxygen atoms from the phenyl rings and one hydroxyl group from the trihydrate form of this molecule.
