N'-Hydroxypyrazine-2-carboximidamide is a coordination compound that has bactericidal activity. It was synthesized by reacting acetone with nitric acid. FT-IR spectroscopy showed the formation of intramolecular hydrogen bonds, which are responsible for the coordination of the ligand to the metal ion. The bactericidal concentration was determined by titration and found to be around 0.1 mmol/L in acetonitrile solutions. Diffraction and structural studies were conducted on crystalline samples, which revealed a tetranuclear complex with two bridging oxygen atoms. This compound is able to bind to bioligands such as nicotinic acetylcholine receptor and alpha-adrenergic receptors, which makes it useful for drug development and diagnosis of diseases.
