7-Hydroxy-3,4-dimethyl-2H-chromen-2-one is an isoenzyme that inhibits the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. It has been shown to be a chemotherapeutic drug that can be synthesized from coumarin derivatives. 7-Hydroxy-3,4-dimethyl-2H-chromen-2-one has been found to inhibit the polymerase in rat liver microsomes and rat plasma. This inhibition of polymerase activity leads to the synthesis of less DNA, which may account for its antiangiogenic properties. The enzyme also has some selective effects on specific cells, such as striatal cells.
