3-Hydroxy-6H-benzo[c]chromen-6-one is a coumarin derivative that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. It was found to inhibit the production of IL-10, an anti-inflammatory cytokine, and increase autophagy in human serum cells. This compound also inhibits the polymerase chain reaction and 3t3-l1 preadipocytes. The mechanism of action may be due to its ability to inhibit LPS induced inflammatory response by decreasing mitochondrial membrane potential and cytosolic calcium levels. 3HBCO also inhibits the synthesis of proteins involved in glucose uptake and lipid metabolism in adipocytes, which may lead to weight loss.
