N-(Hydroxymethyl)-2-methylacrylamide is a polymer coating that can be applied to the surface of teeth to protect them from dental caries. It is a polymeric matrix that has been shown to be effective in preventing the growth of bacteria, such as Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus acidophilus, which cause dental caries. The coatings contain chlorine atoms, which react with hydroxyl groups on the surface of the teeth to form hydrochloric acid. This reaction increases the pH level of the mouth and reduces bacterial growth by inhibiting protein synthesis. The coating also contains particles, such as polyvinyl chloride, which are used for adhesion to dentin.
