N'-Hydroxyacetimidamide is a compound that binds to the active site of acetohydroxamic acid, an enzyme involved in bacterial metabolism. The binding of N'-hydroxyacetimidamide stabilizes the acetohydroxamate-enzyme complex, which is less susceptible to degradation by other enzymes and antibiotics. This binding also inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins essential for cell division. N'-Hydroxyacetimidamide has been shown to be biocompatible and has no significant cytotoxicity at concentrations up to 10 mM. It has also been shown to inhibit antibiotic-resistant strains such as wild-type Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus.
