4-Hydroxy-2,5-dimethylbenzonitrile is a monomer that is used in the production of polycarbonates. It is an organic compound with the chemical formula CH3C6H4CN. 4-Hydroxy-2,5-dimethylbenzonitrile is a colorless liquid that has a distinctive odor. It is soluble in ethanol and ether but insoluble in water. This compound can be synthesized by electropolymerization of acetone cyanohydrin and trimethylbenzene with potassium hydroxide.
