Description

(R,Z)-12-Hydroxyoctadec-9-enoic acid is a natural product that belongs to the group of antimicrobial agents. It inhibits bacterial translocation by binding to ester linkages on the surface of the bacterial cell wall, preventing the entrance of bacteria into host cells. The reactive site is an hydroxyl group located at C12. This compound has been shown to have activity against infectious diseases including chlamydia, shigella, and salmonella. (R,Z)-12-Hydroxyoctadec-9-enoic acid also has a number of other activities such as inhibition of glycol ethers and methanol solvents.
