Description

1-Hydroxyethanediphosphonic acid potassiumsalt is a fatty acid derivative that has been shown to modulate the activity of cationic surfactants. It is used as an antimicrobial treatment in water and industrial effluents and can also be used to control viscosity. The synthesis of 1-hydroxyethanediphosphonic acid potassiumsalt involves the reaction of sodium citrate with imine, followed by a hydrolysis step using hydrochloric acid. 1-Hydroxyethanediphosphonic acid potassiumsalt has been shown to inhibit matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) enzymes, which are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix proteins. 1-Hydroxyethanediphosphonic acid potassiumsalt is often used together with other functional groups such as amines or phosphoric acid esters because they have been shown to increase its antimicrobial activity.
