Description

4-((4-(Hexyloxy)benzoyl)oxy)benzoic acid is a ferroelectric liquid crystal compound that belongs to the class of organic solvents. It is a colorless to light yellow liquid with a melting point of -2°C. The alkyl esters and pyridine are derived from the reaction of phosphorus pentachloride, methyl ester and dimethylaminopyridine with 4-(Hexyloxy)benzoic acid. 4-((4-(Hexyloxy)benzoyl)oxy)benzoic acid has been shown to be an efficient precursor for the synthesis of other ferroelectric compounds and can be used in many applications such as molecular switches, liquid crystal compositions, and solid state lasers.
