• Description: L-histidine is a molecule that chelates metal ions and inhibits their function. L-Histidine is used as an analytical reagent for the determination of metal ions in water, a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) inhibitor, and an immunosuppressant. L-histidine is also used to treat bowel disease and cancer by inhibiting the production of certain molecules. L-histidine has been shown to bind to toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) in intestinal cells, which activates the immune system to produce cytokines such as IL-8. In addition, L-histidine can act as a cofactor for enzymes involved in protein synthesis by protecting them from oxidation.
